The Challenge

For Vespera, Vaonis returned to us with a new chapter: a smart telescope designed to bring deep-sky astronomy to anyone with a smartphone. The audience was tricky to convince: amateur astronomers, some with serious budgets, being asked to back a nearly $1,000 device sight unseen. The film had to do four things at once: reassure, convince, explain and seduce.

Our Approach

We built the story around real skies, not studio simulations. Our team travelled to an international dark sky reserve in the south of France, near Montpellier, to film Vespera in the one place where it truly makes sense: total darkness, far from any city light. Because a single exposure can't hold both a sharp subject and a full starfield, the night skies were recomposed in post-production, combining separate exposures so the telescope and the cosmos it reveals could share the same frame. We paired this with behind-the-scenes footage at Vaonis' workshops, showing the device being assembled, and cast models to bring a human, aspirational layer to the film, all tied together with a full voiceover script.

What We Delivered

  • Location shoot: A night shoot at a certified dark sky reserve, capturing Vespera in its natural element.
  • Sky Compositing: Night skies recomposed in post-production, combining separate exposures so the subject and the stars could both stay sharp in the same shot.
  • Manufacturing footage: Behind-the-scenes images from Vaonis' workshops, showing the craft behind the product.
  • Talent & Styling: Models cast to give the film a human, lifestyle dimension.
  • Full Post-Production: Editing, sound design and a complete voiceover to carry the narrative from open to close.

The Result

The campaign closed at over $2.5 million raised from more than 2,100 backers, 25 times its original funding goal, proof that a well-told story can turn a niche, high-consideration product into a runaway success.
