Despite the climate urgency, glaciers are melting in almost general indifference, even during years dedicated to them by UNESCO. The challenge for L'imagerie Films, alongside the agency MNSTR, was to break this institutional silence with a strong brand image, capable of establishing itself in pop culture to trigger an immediate wave of generosity. How can we make the agony of a silent giant audible before its total disappearance? For the closing of this international year, we had to transform alarming scientific data into a powerful visual and sensory experience.
MNSTR's creative approach, which we brought to life, chose to literally give a voice to the glaciers by using the most symbolic and fragile medium there is: ice itself. By filming the creation and listening of an ice vinyl — designed by artist Barthélemy Antoine-Lœff from the meltwater of the Mer de Glace — we transformed a biological reality into a poetic message. This unique record captures the authentic cracks and groans of a dying glacier, enhanced by the compositions of Flavien Berger and Aurélien Buiron. The visual aesthetic prioritizes the raw authenticity of the Alps to highlight the contrast between the millennial power of the giant and its last breath.
On screen, this narrative is carried by Luc and Louisa Moreau. This father-daughter duo, both deeply committed to climate action, embodies an essential intergenerational transmission in the face of the environmental emergency. The capturing of footage in the studio and high mountains, led by director Maël Sevestre and cinematographer Victor Laplane, required advanced logistics supported by expert guides. This "Voice of the Glaciers," brought to life by Quentin Mosimann's performance, becomes a total art object where every shot of this vinyl melting as it plays symbolizes the irreversible loss of these frozen sentinels.
The result is a powerful artistic and environmental statement that stands as both a tribute and a warning. By capturing this cry from the heart, we highlighted the struggle of six NGOs, including Protect Our Winters and Mountain Riders, with a concrete goal: raising €100,000 to protect these vital ecosystems. This project does more than just document the melting of the ice; it gives a sonic existence to what remains most fragile in this world.
