DOCUMENTARIES

L'Imagerie Films produces documentaries for brands: expedition films, long-form stories, formats that need room to breathe rather than thirty seconds to convince. We write, shoot and direct, or we pick up a film that has already been shot and carry it through to delivery. Whatever the camera, whatever the terrain. We work from Annecy, twenty minutes from Geneva, and high altitude is not something we discover on the day.

Glowing molten material poured into a mold during a cinematic L'Imagerie Films brand film production.

FROM THE FIRST PAGE
TO THE FINAL EXPORT

Some brands arrive with a subject and nothing else. We take it from there: writing, archive research, shooting, directing, music rights, voice-over, translation and subtitling. For Vaonis we produced two expedition documentaries of around fifteen minutes, and on the second our own camera operators spent four days filming in the high mountains. For 1% for the Planet, alongside the agency MNSTR, we shot on the Mer de Glace itself.
A documentary is rarely a one-off. It runs over a season, sometimes several, and it needs someone who still remembers what was decided in the first meeting. One production director owns the film from the first recce to the final export, which is what makes a commitment across several films workable rather than exhausting.

POST-PRODUCTION
ON ITS OWN

Other brands and producers come to us with the rushes already in hand. We take the film from there and carry it to delivery: editing, colour grading, sound design, mix, motion design and 3D, versioning and subtitles, up to a DCP for a screening or a festival. The source format is not a constraint, we work from whatever came back from the field, and the whole post-production chain is directed and controlled here.
We handled finishing, colour grading and the sound mix on Que faisaient-ils là-haut ? (61 minutes, directed by Clément Guillot and Cécile Moreau, produced by La Cabane aux Images), in competition at the FIFAV in La Rochelle and a coup de cœur selection at the What A Trip! festival. Snowkiting across Greenland was edited and post-produced entirely in-house from the rushes brought back from the expedition, and received a Silver Award at the Deauville Green Awards in the Climate Change Action & Adaptation category.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCTION
AND DIRECTING

The Alps are home ground: crews, guides, filming permits, altitude logistics and weather windows, on the French side and across the border in Switzerland. We travel further when the subject calls for it. We produce our own films, and we direct or handle executive production on commission, from the first page to delivery. If you are looking for a partner to carry a series of films over a season rather than a supplier for a single one, that is the way we are set up.

FAQ

WHAT BRANDS
ASK US

01.

Can you take on post-production only?

Yes, and often. Editing, colour grading, sound design, mix, motion design, versioning and subtitles, up to a DCP for a screening or a festival. Whatever camera the film was shot on.

02.

Do you finance documentaries?

No. We produce our own films, we work on commission for a brand, or we handle executive production. We do not fund third-party projects.

03.

What length do you work in?

Formats that leave room for a story. Our expedition documentaries run around fifteen minutes. Que faisaient-ils là-haut ?, which we finished, graded and mixed, runs sixty-one.

04.

Do you handle archives, voice-over, music rights and subtitles?

Yes, along with writing and translation. It is part of the film, not a separate line item you have to source on your side.

05.

Where can you shoot?

The Alps first, on the French and the Swiss side, where we know the terrain, the guides and the logistics. Further afield when the subject calls for it.
